Nerds Like Me – September Meetup
Welcome to our next gathering of AI, data, and product enthusiasts. Expect lively conversation, hands-on demos, and plenty of opportunities to grow your network.
Event Details
- Date: Thursday, September 25
- Time: 7:15 PM to 9:15 PM
- Location: Highwood, IL (exact venue shared after you RSVP)
We’re returning to a tried-and-true spot that SERVES food, so come hungry for both dinner and discussion.
Sponsorship: HELP!
A single round of drinks—or even light snacks—goes a long way toward fueling conversation. If your company can underwrite refreshments, we’ll highlight their support in event remarks and follow-up communications. Reply to this message or DM Jonathan to explore options.
Featured Speaker: Mitch Masia, Senior Software Engineer
Bio:
Mitch Masia is a senior software engineer, aerospace enthusiast, real estate investor, amateur dance teacher, and really amateur woodworker. He’s spent a lot of time building full-stack apps in TypeScript and Elixir across fintech and logistics. He’s currently building AI agents for the beauty industry at Boulevard.
Discussion:
In this talk, we’ll explore what it takes to build your own AI voice agent. We’ll discuss what it takes to build a voice agent from scratch, then check out some existing tools that help speed things along. This is not a lecture, but an interactive discussion on how to design these agentic systems and some tips Mitch has learned along the way that might save you a few hours.

A Gentle Reminder
Planning events for 30+ people is challenging, and we’ve unfortunately seen a significant increase in day-of cancellations recently. As I put my own money down for venue deposits, when a large number of RSVP’d attendees don’t show, it creates uncomfortable situations regarding minimum spends and space reservations. (For example, last month we had 53 RSVPs with only 30 attendees). Therefore, we kindly request that you update your RSVP if you can no longer attend as the event date approaches.
See you soon, both familiar faces and first-timers alike.
